Integrate Biodiversity Conservation Into Business Practices

Companies can reduce their ecological footprint and contribute to conservation most directly by improving their business practices. We help corporations to integrate biodiversity considerations into existing business and environmental management systems and to develop new tools that apply biodiversity conservation principles to companies' operations. For example, through our work with the Energy and Biodiversity Initiative, a consortium of leading energy companies and environmental organizations, we have helped to develop a set of guidelines and tools for integrating biodiversity conservation into oil and gas development.

We also assist companies in creating incentives for their supply chains to develop and adopt similar practices, thereby leveraging and broadening the impact of a company's efforts. We have worked with Starbucks to develop global coffee sourcing guidelines that encourage sound environmental management and social practices. These guidelines provide incentives for Starbucks' coffee suppliers to conserve soil, water and biodiversity.
