Tumbes-Chocó-Magdalena News
Landowners Connect Key Ecosystems: Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund (CEPF) support for Corporación Serraniagua, a community environmental group, helped to expand the Serranía de los Paraguas Network of Private Reserves to 60 members and 2,500 hectares. The organization linked critical ecosystems in the Tumbes-Chocó-Magdalena biodiversity hotspot by encouraging local landowners to develop agro-ecological projects and engage neighboring communities in sustainable land-use practices. Serraniagua also established an educational program for member landowners and developed a commercial strategy for sustainable products and services in the area such as specialty coffees, organic sugarloaf, peach-palm, traditional crafts, and ecotourism.
