Manatee are often struck by boats carrying tourists. The partners - Fundación Amigos del Río San Juan and Fundación Salvemos al Manatí de Costa Rica - have persuaded more than 100 guides, hoteliers, and boat captains to slow traffic on the waterways and help raise awareness about the manatee.
