Mosaico Bocaina

Location: region of the cities of Paraty (Rio de Janeiro) and Ubatuba (São Paulo)
Area: 221,754 hectares
Examples of protected areas: Serra do Mar State Park (the largest strictly protected area in Atlantic Forest) and Bocaina National Park
Examples of threatened species:
Birds:
- Endangered red-browed Amazon (Amazona rhodocorytha)
- Endangered black-hooded antwren (Formicivora erythronotos)
- Vulnerable white-necked hawk (Leucopternis lacernulatus)

Mosaico da Mata Atlântica Central Fluminense
(22 protected areas)

This is one of the areas with the greatest concentration of endemism and threatened species in the Atlantic Forest Hotspot.
Location: the mountainous region of the state of Rio de Janeiro
Area: 233,710 hectares
Examples of protected areas: Serra dos Órgãos National Park and Três Picos State Park
Examples of threatened species:

- Endangered Southern muriqui (Brachyteles arachnoides)
Birds:
- Critically Endangered kinglet calyptura (Calyptura cristata)
- Vulnerable Salvadori’s antwren (Myrmotherula minor)

Mosaico da Serra da Mantiqueira
(19 protected areas)

Location: comprising protected areas in the boundary region of the states of São Paulo, Minas Gerais, and Rio de Janeiro
Area: 445,615 hectares
Examples of protected areas: Serra do Papagaio State Park and Itatiaia National Park. The Itatiaia Park was the first protected area to be created in Brazil, in 1937. It is the only place known for the occurrence of the Critically Endangered amphibian Holoaden bradei.
