Steve acts as CELB’s regional lead for China, the Philippines, and the Indo-Burma region. Steve’s near-term focus is to support development of a corporate engagement strategy for CI and partner organizations in China, manage the China elements of key corporate accounts, and help frame a CI approach to understanding and addressing China’s "global footprint" – the impact of Chinese sourcing of timber, minerals, agricultural products and other commodities around the world.
Steve is uniquely qualified for this important role. In addition to a distinguished tenure at CI, Steve went to high school in Taiwan and speaks Mandarin. He has been with CI for nearly 10 years, starting with the Ecotourism Program. Steve spent the last several years in the Quito office as a member of the Andes CBC team focusing on tourism and sustainable policy development. He has also been active in various CI institutional efforts such as the Learning Initiative, the Talent Management Group, and various PMG Program Assessments.
